COOLHUNTING ON OAKLAND

Growing up in the Bay was definitely an experience that can shape an individual. Our communities are unique in it's own right. Even traveling fifteen minutes North or South of Oakland places you in Berkeley or San Leandro and will differentiate visual and atmospheric stimulation. All of our landmarks, small business owners and communities place intrinsic value to the area code we claim as 510.

CoolHunting, one of my daily reads, traveled to the Bay and documented our residents and the quaint side of Oakland. This was a quality job and props to the folks on production down to the interviewees.

Johan Rosenmunthe, the man behind these well shopped photos put a literal meaning behind the words "concrete jungle". Rosenmunthe places a sharp juxtaposition between the wild and metropolitan grounds with various animals placed in uncomfortable environments. The fine comparison can be seen in full on his site under the exhibit name "The Isle of Human".

NO BUNK! NO JUNK!

Band of Outsiders dropped the latest collection called No Bunk! No Junk! . The collection will be distributed exclusively at six Barney locations. Scott Sternberg, the LA based Band of Outsiders designer states that his newest collection targets to ‘tap into Barney’s heritage’ which encapsulates global design. The entire collection is restricted to black and white simple colorways. The line includes staple items including a black corduroy suit, leather jacket and plaid shirt among others.

KANYE + SPIKE JONZE

We Were Once a Fairytale by Spike Jonze. See Kanye act unruly once again.
What was originally meant to be the video for Kanye West’s “See You in My Nightmares”, eventually transformed into the 14 minute short film directed by Oscar nominated director Spike Jonze. Spike Jonze, who’s directed classics such as Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and the upcoming Where The Wild Things Are has previously worked with West on the video for “Flashing Lights”. We Were Once a Fairytale will release on September 8th via iTunes and feature a cameo from skateboarder/blogger/Kanye’s stylist Ibn Jasper.

MINIMAL TIME

Peep this great minimal clock concept by Kibardin Design. This clock utilizes OLED technology (Organic Light Emitting Diodes). Each number appears dark during the day, while in the evening the light sensor triggers the switch over to a white illumination. Might be annoying if used in the bed room when sleeping. Night light action?

My iPhone travels where I travel. It's only natural that I archive my life one day at a time using my iPhone as the historian tool. I post my photos on Facebook from time to time. FUTURA + RUEDIONE

German born graf artist/photograher ruedione showcases another video into the latest exhibition from Futura, entitled Odyssey Two. Shot with emotion and careful time lapse sequence, the documentation took place in Berlin also features Stash behind the lens. The track in the video is by The Future Sound of London Papua New Guinea.

These Docksides come in a special colorway created by artist So-Me. For those who are not familiar with his work, the shoe resonates his past accomplishments with just the treatment of the different color eyelets. Among his other work, check the steez that has most surface recognition from Justice's D.A.N.C.E. video, to Kanye's Good Life video to his recent work with Complex and the beautiful Keri Hilson.
These casual slip-on's feature a Sebago signature tab on left shoe, Cool Cats original logo tab on right shoe and are limited to 75 pairs only. Men and women sizes are available and comes accessorized with a travel shoe bag.

DAFT PUNK + DJ HERO

Lately Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have been turning up in new and noteworthy contexts -- like going helmetless in clubs. And soundtracking films. But none are as new or noteworthy as their previously reported decision to license their likeness to the careful custodians of likenesses at Activision for the premiere installment of DJ Hero, the game that lets you tweak knobs and cue beats like a bona fide celebrity DJ. (If you Guitar Hero junkies were tired of people ragging on you for imitating guitar playing by pressing buttons, get ready for some imitating-pressing-buttons-by-pressing-buttons meta-ragging.) Actually it's more than just their likenesses the robots have lent Activision; in addition, Daft Punk have allowed the game to depict their stage sets and created 11 exclusive mixes that blend their bangers with -- according to this trailer's roll call -- Queen, Boogie Down Productions, No Doubt, Gary Numan, N.A.S.A., Beastie Boys, Hashim, and Young M.C. Let's watch it while thinking about the embarrassing situations we can have the unlocked robot avatars DJ. I'll start: bar mitzvah.
